From the USA to Korsholm, Finland! Find out the interesting story of why and how two American pensioners managed to immigrate from the USA to Korsholm. Karen & Gary Barnum re-migrated to Finland in January of 2022, exactly 100 years after Karen's grandmother, Helga left Jungsund for a new life in the United States.

They will explain how the re-migration process works and how Karen qualified to re-migrate to Finland. They will also tell about growing up in Oregon around the large Scandinavian immigrant culture in Astoria, Oregon.

Learn how family traditions and the love of Finnish culture played a part in their journey and what becoming a resident of Finland involves. Hear what they miss about the United States (and what they don't miss!) and hear what they like and find most surprising and difficult about living in Finland.

In honor of Thanksgiving Day, a traditional American Thanksgiving Dinner will be served.

They bought a big old house in Karperö, 4 km from Karen's ancestral homestead, and spent a year renovating while living in Vasa.

Learn how family traditions and the love of Finnish culture played a part in their journey and what becoming a resident of Finland involves. They will explain how the re-migration process works and how Karen qualified to re-migrate to Finland. They will tell stories about growing up in Oregon around the large Scandinavian immigrant culture in the small fishing and logging town of Astoria, Oregon. Hear what they miss about the United States (and what they don't miss!) and hear what they like and find most surprising and difficult about living in Finland.

The day of this lecture will be near one of the biggest holidays celebrated in the United States. Thanksgiving Day, which is on the fourth Thursday in November, is a chance for families to get together, share a wonderful dinner, and to reflect on all the positive things they are thankful for. It also marks the official start of the Christmas season. In honor of this holiday, traditional American Thanksgiving Dinner will be served, along with the presentation of historic photos, videos, definitely some humor, and a heartfelt appreciation for living in Korsholm from the guest speakers.
