Over two weekends on May 21-22 and June 11-12, agroecologist Joshua Finch will lead an open consult type workshop series focused on integrating market gardening with principles of agroecology. The client, ag-entrepreneur Ulrica Taylor, is starting a small-scale market garden in Veikars, as a means of addressing the need for regeneratively grown, local produce, in a way that provides economic and environmental benefits.
We will explore the potential and drawbacks of market gardening and begin designing a profitable system focused on soil health and agroecosystem viability. The course will combine theory and hands on field work to demonstrate the principles of soil health and holistic planning.
Other topics include:
- How to conduct a quick permaculture site analysis
- Initial patterning of elements including permaculture zones of use
- Nodig market garden design choices
- Developing CSA models that work for your context
- Adding other production enterprises (income streams) to the farm
- Agroforestry: why and how it can be included in a market garden
- Care for the self and community: social and personal sustainability
The course fee includes lunch and coffee.
The course is arranged in cooperation with the Älvbyarna Association.
